Our Leather

Origins & Tanning

Our vegetable-tanned leathers come from tanneries nestled in the hills of Tuscany, Italy, that belong to the Genuine Italian Vegetable Leather Consortium. Each tannery follows its own time-honored methods, recipes, and dyeing processes, which means no two hides—and no two colors—are ever exactly the same. Even within the same colorway, variations in tone, depth, and finish are natural and expected. These subtle differences are part of what makes each piece truly one of a kind.

We use top-grade, full-grain leather vegetable tanned with tannins derived from tree bark and other plant-based materials. This centuries-old process takes time, patience, and skilled craftsmanship, producing leather designed to age beautifully.

Sustainability

Sustainability is an important part of the story of our leather. The hides we use are byproducts of the food system; animals are not raised for their hides alone. By transforming these existing hides into durable, long-lasting goods, we give this natural material new purpose and keep it in use for years to come.

We believe sustainability is also about longevity—choosing fewer things, using them often, and caring for them well. Rather than wearing out quickly or being discarded when it shows signs of use, vegetable-tanned leather develops a rich patina that reflects the places it has been, the hands that have carried it, and the years it has been part of your everyday life.

Natural Variations

Because leather is a natural material, you may notice variations in color, natural markings like fat lines or veining, and unique textures—each hide carries its own story. With regular use, expect gentle reshaping, soft creases, indentations, scratches, and a deepening patina that reflects its unique character.

Handmade Craftsmanship

Each cover is made entirely by hand using only simple tools and an embossing press—no assembly lines and no mass production. Every piece carries small, human details—the quiet signature of the hands that shaped it.

If you prefer flawless uniformity, our covers may not be the best choice for you. But if you value natural materials, thoughtful craftsmanship, character, individuality, and the beauty of a piece that evolves with you, these were made for you.

Let your cover gather the marks of time and use, growing richer with the years and becoming part of the story you carry with you.
